Part of the reason for Japan’s huge investments into robotics is the country’s ageing population. Robots designed to help the elderly are becoming increasingly commonplace. Atmosic and SMK Electronics team up to make IoT device batteries last ‘forever’

  California-based Atmosic Technologies and Japanese components producer SMK Electronics have announced a strategic partnership to attempt to enable ‘forever battery life’. The initiative will integrate Atmosic’s M3 system-on-chip (SoC) into a range of connected devices from SMK. Atmosic’s M3 solutions are based on the Bluetooth 5 standard. MediaTek claims industry first with successful NB-IoT satellite connection

  Taiwanese semiconductor provider MediaTek has claimed an industry first with a public test of an NB-IoT device to an Inmarsat satellite 35,000 kilometres above the equator. A bi-directional link was established from MediaTel’s satellite-enabled standard NB-IoT device to a commercial GEO satellite. The test was conducted with a base station at the Fucino Space Center.
